MAGAZINE COVERS

The most important and major task in media's practical work is to individually create and design a magazine, and most importantly the main part of it which attracts the viewers/ readers to get the magazine ie the magazine cover. The cover of the magazine has to be eye catching, quite attractive and of course, vibrant enough to attract people. We not only had to design the cover but also the content page and the double spread for our magazine.

In our class we learnt the main components of a magazine cover. They are as follows:

- Masthead:

Its the title of the magazine which you usually find at the top of the page

- Tag line:

This is usually a descriptive message given on the magazine cover.

- Main Photo:

This is also called the Anchoring Photo and represents the main highlight of the magazine.

- Buzzwords:

These are words that are used to excite the audience such as Exclusive

- Main Coverline:

This is the line that advertises a story or feature inside the magazine.

-Strip:

This contains the main items and contents inside the magazine.

These were the main components we were made to learn on a magazine cover but we also learnt the names of a few detailed ones too which includes the bar code, the celebrity line and Puffs. These all contribute in making a detailed attractive cover to attract viewers to buy the magazine. Lets Start!

PUBLISHING HOUSE

The publishing house that I chose for my animal magazine would be DAWN. DAWN is a well known publishing house since its the oldest english language newspaper/ magazine in Pakistan. They usually have their spotlights on a variety of topics so in my opinion, they will feel no hesitation to publish my genre as well.  Another reason of the less likely chances for DAWN to reject my magazine is the number of people with dogs as pets in our country is quite high, which means that the genre of my magazine will be proven beneficial for many people since it is highly representative.

PHOTOGRAPHY RULES

Photography rules and their information is as important as anything else in media.  We discussed a number of rules that should be considered while we take a photo, and rules that we should knowing while taking our shots. Here are some of the shots I took and the rules that they belong to : DEPTH OF FIELD: 'Depth of field' is used for objects in the background and the foreground. It focuses on the main subject. LEADING LINES: 'Leading Lines' show the effect that the viewer is being dragged towards a specific subject and draw the viewers eye to a specific direction. NOSE ROOM: 'Nose Room' is the space between the subject in a photo and the next moving or still object being looked towards. HEAD ROOM: The 'Head Room' is the space between the subjects head and the top of the frame ie the space of the room.

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

As far as the distribution of my magazine is concerned, it will be made available in majorly all urban areas that are highly populated. These would be Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Multan in particular since statistics and research states that mostly dog owners are found in these urban areas.   I will be selling my magazine's copies at a fair price in the number of 1000. These will be available at big shops and stalls where mostly the upper class, upper middle class, and the middle class people will have their reach.
